Barbara's Story

LIBERAL, KS: Barbara “Babe” Nixon of Sierra Dr., Liberal, Kan. died January 16, 2016,after a sudden illness with her loving daughter, Lisa, at her side. Barbara was born on June 12, 1933, daughter of Harry Alpers, Sr. and Pearl Boyd Alpers of Medford. She graduated from Medford High School and married Frederick Nixon, Sr. of Winchester, on February 1, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Church in Medford.

She was a resident of Derry, Belmont, and moved to Liberal, Kan.

She is survived by her brother, Henry Alpers and his wife, Helen, of Medford; daughter, Cynthia Welch and husband, Peter of Belmont; son, Frederick Nixon, Jr. of Hampstead; daughter, Lisa Nixon of Liberal; and son, Richard Nixon and companion, Patricia Ditton of Newburg, Ore.; as well as “adopted” daughter, Paddy Griffin of Wolfeboro; grandchildren, Jesse Kratzer and husband, Eric of Hutto, Texas, Andrew Petersheim and fiancee, Brianna Case of Warner, and Tayla Nixon of Hampstead; great-grandchildren, Dylan Petersheim, Stella Kratzer and Wyatt Kratzer and many beloved nieces, nephews, and best friend, Sue Stillings of Franklin.

Mom, we’ll miss watching old King Kong and Godzilla movies and Elvira, Nightstalker, and Scooby Doo episodes with you.
