On October 13, 2017, Carole (Samson) Gitlitz, 79, of Derry, passed peacefully while holding her daughter's hand. Carole was born March 26, 1938, in Berlin, N.H., to Maurice and Geraldine Samson.
Carole attended Yale School of Nursing where she met her husband "Gerry." After graduating, she worked in the ER in New Haven, Conn. In 1968, Carole and Gerry moved to Derry, N.H., where they built their home and family. Carole worked as a school nurse at Grinnell Elementary and West Running Brook Middle School. In mid-life, she was an active community member and an avid tennis player and golfer. Later in life, she golfed at Hoodcroft Country Club with "her ladies."
Carole was predeceased by her loving husband, Gerald Gitlitz; son, Steven Samson; and sister, Sandra Edwards. She is survived by her children, Wayne Gitlitz, Kenneth and Kerry Gitlitz, and Karen and James Marriott; her grandchildren, Rachel, Miranda, Jesse, Emily, Anna; and one great-grandchild, Levi.
Carole was a courageous, intelligent and thoughtful woman. Her laughter, playfulness and sense of humor will be missed.
A celebration of life will be held a Hoodcroft Country Club on Saturday, November 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. Please come to share your stories and memories. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the ASPCA.
