MCKENZIE, TN: Dorothy B. Simon of Huntingdon, Tenn., died October 7, 2014, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Born Dorothy Irene Buttolph to O.D. “Jack” and Nettie I. (Daniels) Buttolph on August 28, 1928 in Plainfield, N.J., she graduated from Cranford (NJ) High School and Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and then worked in Newark, N.J. as a secretary in the early 1950s.
She moved from Cranford, N.J. to East Derry, N.H. in 1955, and helped run the family dairy farm on Young Road for over 10 years. After getting divorced in the mid-1960s, she became a substitute teacher locally for several years, and later taught for two years at Manchester West HS.
In 1969, Mrs. Simon began teaching at Pinkerton Academy, and spent the next two decades teaching English at Pinkerton. After retiring and remaining in Derry for most of the 1990s, she moved to Huntingdon, Tenn. in 1997 to be closer to her daughter, Sharon, who would die of stomach cancer in October 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by brother, James D. Buttolph; by son, Robert R. Simon; by daughter, Sharon I. Simon McCall; by daughter-in-law, Linda S. Simon, and by ex-husband, John P. Simon. She is survived by her son, J.D. Simon and by two grandchildren.
