Janet L.'s Story
Janet L. Girting, 81, of Derry, N.H., died Saturday, November 4, 2017, in Parkland Medical Center in Derry. She was born in Punxsutawney, Pa., on October 1, 1936, a daughter of the late Donald and Pauline (Bailey) Cousins. She had been a resident of Derry for the past two years, formerly living in Windham, N.H. She was a graduate of Beaver High School in Beaver, Pa. Janet was a military wife and spent much of her time caring for her family while her husband was overseas serving our Country. She loved shopping and outings with her family, as well as traveling. Janet will be remembered for her tenacity in overcoming life's obstacles with a wicked sense of humor that has been passed on to all of her children.
She is survived by two daughters, Roberta "Bobbie" Gaudette and her husband, Donald of Concord, N.H., and Diane Fleming and her husband, Michael of Derry; her son, Nicholas Girting and his wife, Lisa of Weare, N.H.; five grandchildren, Lee, Meredith, Caroline, Samantha and Catherine; one great-granddaughter, Lillian Rose Owen; two brothers, Richard Cousins of North Carolina, and John Cousins of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert "Red" Girting in March 2016, and a granddaughter, Christine.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. The burial will follow in Cemetery on the Plain, Ministerial Road, Windham, NH.
