John David Carmody
April 06, 1951 - January 22, 2019
Epping, NH - On January 22, John David Carmody, 67, of Epping, passed away peacefully at the Rockingham County Nursing and Rehab following a long illness. Known to friends as Dave, or “Carmo,” he was born in Lawrence Mass., attended St. Mary’s grammar school and Central Catholic High and then attended the University of New Hampshire. He received his bachelor’s degree graduating in 1972 and married his wife Joanne Hamel the same year. A respected educator he began his English and At Risk Student teaching career at Salem High in 1972, leaving briefly to teach at Milford High in the mid-1980s. He then returned to Salem High until his retirement in 2012. During his teaching years Dave also tutored students in multiple subjects including Math, Trigonometry, Physics, and Chemistry.
Dave was also a real estate agent during the mid-1980s and in later years taught real estate classes at Coldwell Banker in Salem. He was a great family man and loved spending time with his wife and two daughters Julia Carmody and Emily Ford, his son-in-law, Christopher Ford, and especially his precious grandson Christopher John (CJ) Ford. A stroke in 2015 left him unable to continue to enjoy his favorite activities of bicycling, hiking, camping, skiing, golfing, traveling and helping his wife with gardening and the landscaping of their retirement home.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Gloria Carmody. In addition to his wife, daughters, son-in-law and grandson, he leaves behind two sisters Debbie Caron, Susan Carmody, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family is planning a memorial service to be held in the spring.
Memorial Scholarship donations may be made to the Salem Dollars for Scholars, Box 297, Salem, NH 03079 for a Memorial Scholarship set up in memory of Dave.
The family would like to thank the many who have reached out in this time of sorrow.

I have many found memories of Dave as a gifted teacher and fine human being. My son had the pleasure of having him as a teacher and always spoke so highly of him.

I remember Dave from high school. He was a good friend and an all round nice guy. Godspeed Dave.

All of us who were blessed to enjoy Dave as our teacher have been touched by a man who did what he loved, and it showed. A classy guy, a warm personality big enough to reach anyone and everyone, just a guy you loved to be around. Thank you to his family for sharing him with us all these years.
