Marilyn's Story

NEW DURHAM: Marilyn A. Willard, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford. Marilyn was born in Everett in 1942, the daughter of Richard and Annie Willard. After high school, she attended Bridgewater State College where she received a BS in Elementary Teaching. She became a teacher in the Malden School System, where she taught 5th and 6th grades. She primarily taught at the Emerson School, and after its closing she taught at the Beebe School until her retirement. Although she primarily lived most of her life in Malden, she had also spent her summers at Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, N.H., since 1952. She also enjoyed wintering in Ft. Myers, Fla., with her mother, Annie Willard, and her aunt, Adra. Marilyn was a member of The First Church, Congregational in Malden since 1965. She served as the secretary of the Malden Educational Association from 1967 to 2004. She also served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Merrymeeting Lake Association in New Durhuam, N.H., and is and Honorary Life Member of the association.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret A. Matthews and husband, John of New Durham, N.H.; her aunt, Adra M. Strom of Ft. Myers, Fla.; her nephew, Richard Matthews and wife, Dalena of Londonderry, N.H.; and her niece, Annette Matthews of New Durham, N.H.

In accordance with Marilyn's wishes, all services will be private.
