Erie, CO - Ralph Oscar Blanchette, born July 7, 1934, was, in his own terms, a "simple man". A giant plate of spaghetti, maybe a chicken cutlet (light on the mozzarella and definitely no "green stuff" adorning the plate), a "generous" Manhattan or two, and a day filled with sunshine was all he ever really needed to survive, and yet he managed to so often be the life of the party. Perhaps it was, partially, the Manhattans, but more likely it was his infectious smile, his never-ending, good-natured bantering, is iconic expressions, his generous heart, and his indelible sense of humor that could fill a room with laughter.
He died, peacefully, at his home, on January 5, after a brief illness. He spent his last hours, surrounded by family and dear friends, enjoying one last cocktail before stepping over to eternity. The setting, so incredibly apropos for a man who enjoyed being in the center of each and every social gathering, no matter the size or circumstance, was truly humbling and heartwarming.
He was joyously welcomed to heaven by his beloved wife JoAnn, eldest son, Stephen, parents, William and Cecile, and brother Leo where, we are certain, the celebration rang, raucously, well into the night. He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Will and Guy, daughter-in-law, Joanne, grandchildren Sinéad, Ciara, Maeve, Gráinne, Colby, Bailey, Ainsley and Mason, and countless family and close friends who will forever cherish "Grampa", "Ralphy", or "Zeke" in their hearts.
At his request, and true to his nature, there will be no formal services.
