Raymond Edward's Story
Raymond (Sonny) Bragel, 83, died of natural causes on October 7, 2017, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry. He was born in Boston on May 8, 1934, to the late Raymond Vogel Bragel and Eleanor Agnes (Smith) Bragel. After serving in the Navy during the Korean War, he worked in the sheet metal industry. He loved being with family and was a great storyteller. He was a musician who enjoyed writing songs and playing his guitar. On September 30, 1956, he married the love of his life, Edith, in Somerville, Mass., where they brought up their five children.
He is survived by his wife Edith; their son, Raymond; daughter, Edith and her companion, Robert Aguirre; their daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Daniel Cole, and their three children, Christopher, Gregory and Kimberly; his daughter-in-law, Mary Bragel (James); his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Brian Murphy, and their son, Brian. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Rylee Cole. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, James Bragel just a week prior. He was also predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Eleanor Bragel; his brother, Lawrence Bragel; his two sisters, Eleanor (Bunny) Cullinane and Mary Barnett; and his beloved grandson, Michael Murphy.
On Friday, October 20, a private military memorial service will be held at The New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, Attention Lieutenant Kathryn Mayes or Lieutenant Kathryn Bender, 18 Folsom Road, Derry, NH 03038.
