DERRY: Rhoda MacLeod Mitchell Watson, 95, passed away on March 7, 2016, at the Wolfe Living Center, in Harrah, Okla. She was born on June 15, 1920, in Derry to Chester Eugene Mitchell and Gracie Jean MacQuarrie Mitchell. She was a 1937 alumna of Pinkerton Academy, in Derry, and received her B.A. degree in Journalism from Syracuse University in N.Y. She spent many years raising her family in Newfields, N.H. with her husband, Gerald. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church and held many offices throughout her lifetime.
Gerald, her husband of 59 years, preceded her in death in July, 2001. She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Steven Watson (Shirley) of Knoxville, Tenn., Rhoda Burrill (Ken) of Etowah, N.C., Douglas Watson (Chris) of Orlando, Fla., Thomas Watson (Donna) of Ooltewah, Tenn., Perry Watson (Jeanne) of Harrah, Okla., and Paul Watson (Barbara) of Newfields, N.H.; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at 11 a.m., June 4, in Derry, N.H. at the Forest Hill Cemetery (burial site is on Stark Ave.). A memorial service will be held at the Amesbury Seventh-day Adventist Church in Amesbury, at 3 p.m. on June 4 (171 Main Street, Amesbury). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NNEC, Pathfinders c/o Tonya Turcotte, 479 Main St., Westbrook, ME 04092 (the Pathfinder youth group of which she was an active leader of in her 80’s).
