Derry, NH - Susan J. (Hammer) Wereska, 68 of Derry, NH, died peacefully on Wednesday at home with her family.
She was born in Concord, NH, grew up and was educated in the Hillsboro-Deering, NH area. She was a resident of Derry for the past 41 years.
Susan was a middle school teacher in Derry for 20+ years In 2013, She was a NH Finalist for Teacher of the Year - NH Council of English Teachers.
She loved poetry and was a member of the Hyla Brook Poetry Group at the Robert Frost Farm in Derry, N.H. She enjoyed painting, yoga, writing and was a published author. A former editor for the New England League of Middle Schools. A former member of the EDDIES committee and a founding member of the Southern NH Women's Writing Group.
Susan was the daughter of the late Marvin and Dorothy (Ryley) Hammer. She was also predeceased by her sister, Laurel Laton.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Wereska of Derry, NH.; son, Seth and his wife, Sioux Wereska of Milton, Mass.; daughter, Alaina and her husband, Jeff Galvin of Scarborough, Maine; niece, Rebecca (Hammer) and her husband, Gardner Murphy of Washington, N.H., sister, Beth Putnam of Antrim, NH.; grandchildren, Elsa and Cole Galvin, Calvin and Maxwell Wereska.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours on Sunday, April 7th from 1 to 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Rd, Windham, N.H. Burial will be in Hillsboro, NH at a later date.
