Walter's Story

DERRY: Walter R. Girard, 60 of Derry, N.H. and Wells, Maine, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Born March 11, 1954 in Lawrence, Mass., the son of Arthur Girard and Jeanne (Provencal) Morneau. He was a graduate of Dover High School, Class of 1973. He worked as a machinist and Foreman in Shop 31 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Walter is a member of the Masonic Charter Oak Lodge #58 in Effingham, N.H. He also enjoyed beekeeping, working in his shop and tending his fruit and vegetable gardens in his spare time.

He is survived by his wife, JudyRae (Devine) Whitney of Wells, Maine; his mother, Jeanne Morneau of Dover, N.H.; two sons, Matthew Girard of Boston, Mass. and Nicholas Girard and his fiancee, Clare Wheeler of London, England; a daughter, Leah Girard Weaver and her husband, Robert of Cumberland, Maine; five stepchildren, Nathan Whitney of Jay, Maine, Dawn Loughran and her husband, Chris of Melborne, Fla., Nicholas Whitney and his wife, Brenna of Sanford, Maine, John Michaud and wife, Trisha of Derry, N.H., William Michaud and wife, Tiffany of Kingston, N.H.; a granddaughter, Charlotte Weaver and six step grandchildren; and five siblings, Mary Ann Steere of Milton, N.H., Patrick Girard of Rochester, N.H., Dorothy Groulx of Rochester, N.H., Raymond Girard of Lawrence, Mass. and Paula Bonnin of Dover, N.H.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Tufts Medical Center transplant team and staff for their dedication and care. Their skill and compassion provided Walter the opportunity to enjoy several more years of life.
