DERRY, NH: Wayne Robert Emerson, 71, of Derry, died at home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 11, following a long and brave battle with bile duct carcinoma.
Wayne was born in Derry on October 19, 1943, to Robert A. and Winnifred F. (Daskey) Emerson. He was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy and served 20 years in the United States Air Force as a firefighter and air traffic controller. Wayne’s military career included service in Vietnam. He lived in several states throughout his life including California, Florida and Michigan. After retiring from the Air Force, Wayne spent nearly two decades as an interstate tractor trailer driver and most recently worked as a delivery driver in greater Derry for Sanel Auto Parts. He enjoyed country music, loved playing the slots and was well-known for his sense of humor, dry wit and beautiful blue eyes.
Wayne will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife, Lynne Marie of Derry; his sons, Michael Emerson of Honolulu, Hawaii and Mitchell Emerson and his wife, Dawn of Pittsfield, N.H.; step-daughter, Emily Susan of Lowell; sister, Gayle Gagnon and her husband, Ronald of Londonderry; sister, Faye Tinkham of Derry; sister, Jayne Bailey and her husband, Bryan of Gilmanton; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Mr. Emerson received military honors as his body was laid to rest at the New Hampshire State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen in a private ceremony.
