Derry - Richard (Dick) W. Harrow, 89, of Aladdin Circle passed away peacefully on January 13th at the Bedford Hills Center.
Dick was born in Cambridge, MA on April 21, 1935, the son of Francis S. Harrow and Ingeborg Harrow (Erickson). After attending Arlington High School, Dick enlisted in the US Navy in 1953 where he served as a Radarman 3rd class primarily aboard the USS Johnnie Hutchins. Dick was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his wartime service and was honorably discharged in 1956.
After his military service, Dick began his career in the construction industry and soon formed his own company, Richard Harrow Construction. Dick fervently operated his business for over 50 years where he could often be heard saying, " find a way to get it done." In his leisure time Dick enjoyed cookouts with friends and family, always quick with a joke or story. Dick also had a great fondness for animals, caring for many dogs and cats throughout his life.
Richard is survived by his sisters, Cynthia Keating and Majorie Van Moortel, two granddaughters, nephew, Norman E. Harrow and several nieces. Besides his parents, Dick was predeceased by his wife, Darlene Nyberg, daughter Lori J. Baines and brother Norman F. Harrow.
A burial service for Dick will be held at Boscawen NH VA cemetery on Tuesday, January 28th at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to PAWS New England, P.O. Box 542, Ashland, MA. 01721 or at pawsnewengland.org.
