Richard A. McCarran Obituary

Londonderry - Richard "Rich" A. McCarran, 73, of Londonderry, NH, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, April 3, 2026.

Rich was born on October 14, 1952, to Cecile T. (Desjardins) and William R. McCarran. He was raised in Salem, MA, where he developed the quick wit and spirited nature that would define his life. He married the love of his life, Sheila (Fox), on May 2, 1987, and together they raised their family in Derry, New Hampshire. For many years, Rich owned and operated his own businesses, Bradford Insurance and Plaistow Insurance.

To Rich, friendship was a sacred bond. He developed deep, life-long connections and made it a priority to reach out and stay present in the lives of those he loved. His friends were truly an extension of his family, and he was known for his unwavering loyalty—there was nothing he wouldn't do for them. A natural storyteller with an infectious sense of humor, Rich could make a new friend wherever he went and was always ready with a joke to brighten someone's day.

Despite facing many health challenges throughout his life, Rich possessed a resilient spirit and never let his physical obstacles slow him down. He was a lifelong lover of all sports and remained deeply involved in the baseball world. Whether he was coaching a team, announcing from the booth, or simply listening to a game on the radio, his passion for the sport was constant. He was a dedicated fan of the Red Sox, but his favorite athletes to cheer for were his grandsons.

Rich's greatest joy was his family. He cherished their travels together and felt most at peace spending time on the ocean. Whether he was at the beach or on the water, it was his true "happy place."

He is survived by his wife, Sheila McCarran; his daughters, Dannie Monahan and her husband Nick, Laura Rey, and Kendra McCarran and her fiancé Ryan Anastasi; his beloved grandchildren, Owen Monahan, Kieran Monahan, Elijiah Rey, and Emsley Rey; his brothers, Michael McCarran and his wife Paula, Joseph McCarran and his wife Deb, and Bill McCarran and his wife Cheryl; his mother-in-law, Doris Fox; his sisters-in-law, Debbie McCarran, Sandra Walton and her husband Mike, Kathleen Gardner and her partner Russ, Christine Doherty and her husband, Jim, Lisa Arsenault and her husband Alan, and Janine Demers; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rich was predeceased by his son, Jackson McCarran; two grandchildren, Declan Monahan and Elena Rey; his brother, Patrick McCarran; his brother-in-law, Keith Demers; and his nephew, Steven McCarran.

To honor Rich's wishes, he will be laid to rest with his son, Jackson, at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Derry, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boston Children's Hospital or to the Polio Global Eradication Initiative.
