Derry - Derry - Obituary of Roger R. Martin 1962-2024
Roger Roland Martin adopted Paris and when married he took his wife's name. He was an experienced handy man who turned a garage into a family room for one neighbor and renovated a kitchen for another. He loved plumbing, electrical and carpentry and especially enjoyed setting tiles. He knew how to fix things and shared his knowledge willingly with his neighbors.
He and his grandfather, Walter Grygiel built the smallest registered covered bridge in New Hampshire over West Running Brook. When quite young one summer, Roger walked this brook all the way to the pond in Londonderry where his parents found him.
He loved to make his family and friends laugh, and his insights were both direct and funny. Roger loved to cook, and one friend said that he baked the best pies in New Hampshire. He attributed his talent to Julia Childs as PBS was the only television station they could receive. He was eight when he started cooking with his sister, Elaine, to help feed a family of ten that included his three brothers and three sisters.
Roger worked in multiple states and renovated brownstones on Mass Ave in Boston. When his wife retired from teaching in Massachusetts, they moved to Derry in 2004 because her church was there and he said," It is a good town."
Roger passed on in Burlington, MA at the Lahey Clinic on December 11th, 2024. His wife, Randee Martin and granddaughter, Chloe Paris were at his side. His neighbors in Derry gave Roger high praise when they said, "He was a good man."
