Rose M. Akins, 90, of Chester, N.H., died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 in the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont, N.H.

Mrs. Akins was born in Derry, N.H. on Jan. 3, 1919, a daughter of the late Henry Q. and Margaret (Brewster) Bessey.

She was a resident of Chester for the past five years, formerly living in Florida and Derry. Mrs. Akins enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three sons, Wayne Akins of Warner, N.H., Michael Akins of Clearwater, Fla., and Eric Akins of Brandon, Fla.; three daughters, Patricia Akins of Wellesley, Mass., Kathryn Stapleford of Chester, and Janice Rae Bragg of Dunedin, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray L. Akins, Jr. in 2000, and her daughter, Dianne Humphrey.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be held on Friday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services are Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by burial in the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry.
