York - York - Thomas P. "T-Bird" Souhlaris, Sr. passed away at home on May 14 from ongoing complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
He was born in Brighton, MA on July 4, 1956. He grew up in Allston, Brighton, Cambridge, and Framingham, and lived in Derry, NH, for 24 years where he and his wife, Kathy, raised their family. He graduated from Framingham South High School in 1974 and served in the U.S. Army Infantry at Fort Lewis, WA until 1978. He spent the past nine years living in his favorite place, York Beach, ME.
Thom had many (many!) jobs over the years as a waiter, cook, bartender, limo driver, and mobile food cart owner of T-Bird's Hot Dogs in Derry. His favorite time, however, was working inside Fenway Park as the manager of a sausage stand.
He played in slow-pitch softball leagues in Allston, Natick, Wayland, and Windham, NH. Thom was an avid Boston sports fan, and especially loved the Red Sox. Working at Fenway, he met many players and was there to see Ted Williams at the 1999 All-Star Game. His greatest enjoyment was cheering on his daughter, Alexis, from T-Ball through her star softball career at UMaine. He was thrilled to see her inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023.
He leaves his wife of 38 years, Kathleen; his children, Alexis McNichols and her husband, Ryan, Thomas "TJ" Souhlaris, Jr. and his wife, Laura; his beloved granddaughter, Kenley Kay McNichols; and his siblings Jim, Dianne, Marianne and Georgianne. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary (Dunderdale) Souhlaris, and his sisters Barbara Fillios and Joanne Black.
Kathy is forever grateful for the speech, physical, and occupational therapists, nurses and aides from York Hospital Homecare, York Center for Older Adults, and over the last several months, Beacon Hospice. All these women were a great help and support, and they had many laughs with Thom.
A memorial service will be held by the family in July.
